Father's Day is observed on the 3rd Sunday of June.  The day is not only for honoring those father's you knew all your life and grew up with but it is a celebration of fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society.  The first observance of Father's Day took place in Fairmont, WV on July 5, 1908. It was organized by Mrs. Grace Golden Clayton, who wanted to celebrate the lives of the 210 fathers who had been lost in the Monongah Mining Disaster several months earlier in Monongah, WV, on December 6, 1907.  Fairmont is promoted as the "Home of the First Father's Day Service".  A bill was introduced into Congress in 1913 to make Father's Day a national holiday but it wasn't until 1972 when President Nixon signed it into law.

So to all the men out there who have been dad's, who are dad's, who are dad's to be and who are dad's everyday no matter the situation...HAPPY FATHER'S DAY from La Bella Dolce!

NBA PLAYOFFS

Now here at LBD we love to hear what people love to do, watch, hobbies, etc and it makes us wonder "how can we be a part of that?"  Well NBA Playoffs are hot right now and it could go either way.  With Game 5 on and the series tied, it's nerve wrecking!  All the men are glued to the televisions and unless females are sports fans we're pretty sure they looking for something to do.  Well get down with your man ladies cause we're going to tell you who YOU need to be watching on the court *wink wink*
Miami Heat is up first just cause they won the first game so we're going to give them dibs.  Lebron James is all everyone talks about so we're going to skip that and move on to the most consistent player in the playoffs, Chris Bosh!  Obviously he wears jersey #1 and he is one of the tallest ones on the team!  Dwayne Wade we think is the sexiest one one the team.  Come on now he's dating one of America's biggest sweethearts Gabrielle Union!  Can't go wrong with that!  Dwayne Wade is the only member of the Redeem Team who originally started with Miami.  This will be Miami's 2nd Finals with Wade.  Funny how they're playing the Dallas Mavericks because Chris Bosh was born and raised in Dallas, Texas!

Dallas Mavericks are wanting this championship more than anything. Last time they made it to the finals was in 2006 and they lost and to none other than the Miami Heat.  Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Terry were a part of the team together then and now again.  Jason Terry believes so much that they will win he already got a tattoo of the championship trophy!  They have both played consistently and through hardships.  Dirk has a minor injury and was suffering from a fever at Game 4!

So keep an eye out on these hot on the court players and cheer your favorite team on.  We'll never tell who's our favorite ;)

Founder’s Foreword

 

     Well, where do I begin?! For starters, it’s June and means TWO things: we’ve made it half way through this whirlwind year and I will be celebrating another blessed year on this earth! Plans? You bet! After years of being relentlessly taunted by my BFF about being a workaholic, I will be taking a real vacation for the very first time in over 5 years, yeah FIVE YEARS to none other than Puerto Rico! Sounds crazy but where did the time go. Somewhere between body butters and baby oils, I seem to have lost myself amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday life and its natural progression when you give it all you’ve got. After years of hosting and sponsoring endless events, charities and galas I am finally taking a moment to WOOSAW…and it feels great.
     As with many chicks on a mission, we always place ourselves last. Always quick to grow another tentacle like an octopus for a “just in case you need me” kinda moment. In all honesty I ponder, as women how exactly DO we out live men again?! Honey let me tell you, “me time” is so necessary. A dip in the pool, an hour massage, an unexpected girlfriend getaway or just a few relaxing moments stargazing at night with a delicious cocktail in tow. The beauty of it all is there is beauty in all of us if we just take a moment to find it.
     This month, we’ve got a jam packed month of nonstop fabulousness, kicking off with an exciting Honey Highlight featuring Courtni Martin. Honey Highlight features up close and personal interviews of business owners across the nation giving us the inside scoop on their industry. Breakfast, the most important meal of the day?! Sure is and we are going to give you a delicious recipe to get your day started right. Summer fun in the sun is only fun when your skin is protected. Get the breakdown on the importance of sunscreen and which brands weigh in as champions of skin protection. Look out for festive Juneteenth events, NBA playoff updates and enter to win our Father’s Day giveaway!!

THE MEANING OF MEMORIAL DAY/WEEKEND

I previously stated that Memorial Day was the kick-off to summer but that isn’t the real meaning about why we celebrate this holiday every year. Memorial Day is a federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May.


Memorial Day was previously known as Decoration Day and it was first endorsed by formerly enslaved African-Americans to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War. The first time this day was observed was in May 30, 1868 when 5K people helped decorate the gravesites of 20K Union and Confederate soldiers buried at Arlington National Cemetery. After WWI it was decided that Memorial Day should be for all fallen U.S. Service members from all the American wars.

Congress declared Memorial Day a national holiday in 1971. People now honor the military personnel with different type of celebrations such as parades, family get-togethers, and fireworks. Many people observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries and memorials. A national moment of remembrance takes place every year at Arlington National Cemetery at 3pm.

In remembrance of all our fallen military service men and women, have a safe Memorial Day.
